Hey there, fellow cycling enthusiasts! If you’re on the hunt for a picturesque destination to embark on an unforgettable biking journey, I’ve got just the place for you. I recently wrapped up a week-long cycling expedition around the stunning hills of Kaleden, British Columbia, and let me tell you, it was an absolute cyclist’s dream come true.

Kaleden, BC, is a hidden gem for road riders, nestled in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. This charming town and the surrounding areas offers a wide range of cycling experiences, from exhilarating hill climbs to scenic routes, and even some epic adventures on the historic Kettle Valley Railway. It also has a charming group of lake front cabins at a place called Ponderosa Point Lakeside Resort, so if you come as a group you or even a solo traveller you have the ideal spot to be based from (more on that later).

The Ultimate Riding Experience

One of the standout features of Kaleden and surrounding area is the myriad of road rides that cater to cyclists of all skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a casual rider looking for a relaxing pedal, you’ll find your perfect route here.

I logged hundreds of miles during my stay. From an easy flat warm up ride around Skaha Lake (50 km), to a leg burner up to Apex Skill resort (70 km) to a day long journey out to Osoyoos. To look up the multitude cycling routes in this area I recommend going to ZZZZZ.

If you’re passionate about mountain biking, you’ll find a plethora of fantastic trail networks in the region. These include the Three Blind Mice area above Naramata Bench Road and the Skaha Bluffs on the eastern side of Skaha Lake. While the Skaha Bluffs are renowned for their rock climbing, they also offer some breathtaking mountain biking opportunities. Explore Trail Forks to discover the full range of options available in this area.

Epic Rides on the Kettle Valley Railway

Now, let’s talk about the real highlight of my trip – the Kettle Valley Railway. The Kettle Valley Railway offers a unique and historic cycling experience that’s unlike anything else. This former rail line has been converted into a recreational trail, perfect for cyclists. The ride is relatively flat and offers a mix of awe-inspiring tunnels, trestles, and open stretches of scenic countryside.

Start your cycling adventure right from the resort and follow the Kettle Valley Rail Trail (KVR). Take in a leisurely, flat ride along Skaha Lake towards Penticton. As you continue north of Penticton on the eastern side of Lake Okanagan, you’ll appreciate a gentle 2% gradient leading you all the way to the charming Chute Lake Lodge. This delightful lodge serves as a perfect haven to relax and recharge with a delicious lunch. Nestled like an oasis along the trail, its tranquil lake vistas provide an ideal setting to pause, savor a delicious meal, and don’t miss the opportunity to indulge in their renowned homemade pies!

A Perfect Stay at Ponderosa Point Resort

After a long day of cycling, there’s nothing better than returning to a comfortable and inviting place to rest your weary legs. I highly recommend Ponderosa Point Resort for your stay in Kaleden. This family-friendly resort offers cozy accommodations and stunning views of Skaha Lake. Positioned on a picturesque lakeside point and enveloped by the serene waters of Skaha Lake, this is the ultimate hub for your cycling adventures. You’ll find seamless access to the Kettle Valley Railway and a host of other exceptional routes in the vicinity, making it the perfect starting point for your biking expeditions.

Ponderosa Point Resort is not only cyclist-friendly but also an excellent spot for cycling groups looking to have a great time together. With its ample amenities and beautiful surroundings, it’s the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring the hills and trails surrounding Kaleden and the greater area.
